Last month, we were ranked at number 370 in Sustmeme's global Responsible Sourcing Top 500. We love discussing and sharing knowledge on ethical sourcing strategies, and were happy to see several familiar names on the list too.

This leaderboard ranks the top influencers on Twitter, using a scoring system that measures interactions and influences. Whether individuals or companies are discussing environmental or ethical transparency, sustainable procurement or supply chain management, Sustmeme recognises those most heavily involved in the action.

Number 17 – FashionRevolution

FashionRevolution want to use the power of fashion “to inspire change and reconnect the broken links in the supply chain".

Thousands of people across more than 60 countries participated in the first ever Fashion Revolution Day on April 24th 2014. This date marked the one-year anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse, which took the lives of more than 1,000 Bangladeshi garment workers and brought FashionRevolution to our attention.

Fashion Revolution Day was devoted to remembering those who lost their lives in the tragedy, and advocating ethical sourcing within the global garment industry. Individuals were urged to turn an item of clothing inside-out and ask the fashion brand, who made my clothes? The countdown has already begun for the second Fashion Revolution Day this spring, which will raise further awareness of the importance of sustainable sourcing.

Number 43 – SustainAbility

SustainAbility was founded in the pursuit of sustainability, "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".

In one recent blog, we considered the term ‘triple bottom line’, coined by SustainAbility founder John Elkington. This refers to the need for companies to analyse financial profit alongside environmental and ethical costs. He argues that no organisation can understand the full impact of its business model without considering the three pillars of sustainability - people, planet and profit.

Number 176 – Sedex

The Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible and ethical business practices in global supply chains. Last year,

Segura sponsored the Sedex Global AGM and Responsible Sourcing Conference in London, which brought speakers from the World Bank Institute and United Nations Global Compact to address key issues surrounding ethical sourcing.

The Modern Day Slavery Briefing, which aimed to reveal the scale of the problem across various industries worldwide, was also launched at the 2014 Sedex Global Responsible Sourcing Conference.

Number 274 – Jacqueline Glass

Professor Jacqueline Glass leads the Action Programme for Responsible Sourcing (APRES), based at the School of Civil and Building Engineering at Loughborough University. This group of industry and academic partners are focused on bringing sustainable sourcing to the construction industry.

Segura was recently honoured to become a member of APRES, in partnership with Responsible Solutions Ltd.

Number 401 – Responsible Solutions

At number 401 is Ian Nicholson, Managing Director of Responsible Solutions Ltd., a corporate responsibility consultancy focused primarily on the construction industry.

Segura is joining forces with Responsible Solutions to create a supply chain software solution for construction companies that wish to implement sustainable sourcing practices. Formal ethical sourcing strategies represents a perfect fit for the construction industry, and we are looking forward to exploring this partnership further.

Number 370 – Segura

Segura’s supply chain technology provides a simple, efficient and cost effective solution for tracking every element of what you buy from direct suppliers and indirect subcontractors. It can be used by any business which has a desire or regulatory need to ensure transparent, timely and ethical sourcing practices.

Every order placed through the Segura system is fulfilled within a network of pre-approved and audited suppliers, and even subcontracting is restricted to companies within the approved database. A comprehensive audit trail is then produced, showing a complete chain of orders and highlighting any missing links. Segura’s supply chain technology can even be integrated seamlessly into existing supply chain platforms, helping to achieve this impressive level of visibility within a short space of time.
