Short blog covering the shortlisted retailers for the CSR award at the Draper's Awards.

Segura are proud to announce that we have teamed up with retail magazine Drapers to sponsor the Corporate Social Responsibility Award at the Draper's Awards 2016. Focusing largely on the last 12 months, this award aims to recognise the efforts of fashion retailers in becoming a leader in CSR.

The retailers shortlisted for the award are: F&F, H&M, Marks & Spencer and New Look. Congratulations!

We've taken a look at all four retailers, to see how they have been contributing to changing ethical standards across the retail industry over the last few years. We've started with New Look.

New Look have been a high street name for more than 40 years, and have now amassed over 270 suppliers, 860 factories and 28 countries that they source their goods from. With such as large supplier base, you could be fooled into thinking that being ethical was impossible, right? Not for New Look! Since 1998, New Look have been speaking to workers across their supply chain, from all around the world to discover their needs and create effective means of communication between employees and management. Over recent years, management training has been carried out to improve skills and team-working throughout factories across India, Bangladesh and Cambodia.

As well as ethical standards regarding workers, New Look also have a Forest and Fabric policy that focuses on environmental sustainability, and an Animal Welfare Policy. In 2009, New Look created a foundation to make a difference to local communities. Amongst the many things that the New Look Foundation has achieved, they have been raising money for charities worldwide and championing the rights of women by offering educational opportunities to women in third world countries.

Despite the vast amount of corporate sustainability that New Look have incorporated into their organisation, it’s refreshing to know that they recognise that there is still a long way to go!
