7,121 potential victims were identified in 2018 by the Modern Slavery Helpline. Next year, the same number could go uncovered. Without urgent funding, the UK Modern Slavery Helpline will close on 30 November 2019.
The Helpline is run by Segura's charity partner, Unseen, who are fighting for a world without slavery. Unseen’s Modern Slavery Helpline provides supports and access to information to victims, the public, businesses and statutory agencies 24/7. Through the helpline, you can report potential occurrences of slavery and gain access to support and information.
“Since 2016, over 15,000 potential victims of modern slavery – including many British nationals – have been identified across the UK through the Modern Slavery Helpline. And the number of calls is increasing. July 2019 was our busiest month ever.
At the same time, key income has been slow to secure, leaving us with a major funding crisis.
We need to raise £800,000 to not only save the Helpline today but to also sustain it in the long term. Without immediate donations the Helpline will close on the 30th November 2019.
This is not a marketing ploy, it is reality. And men, women and children across the UK will remain enslaved and unseen.”
Segura’s Walk for the Victims of Slavery
1 mile for every thousand victims of slavery identified in 2018
On Anti-Slavery Day – 18th October 2019 – Segura will be putting on their walking shoes to complete 7.2 miles in honour of the victims of slavery. The route will take the team around Loughborough and the local area before finishing back at base with a bake sale and more fundraising! Any donations or shares make a huge difference. Without urgent funding the lines will go dead on 30th November.
